I'm with Isaac... I made the switch from a Windows PC to a Mac about a year ago and I haven't looked back. Apple's switch to Intel processors is really what made it possible for me. I was able to use VMware Fusion for the month that it took me to find and transition to all new apps for my development cycle.

Now I'm way happier than I was on Windows.

Also, if you haven't already, upgrade your disk to a modern SSD. No other system component makes as big a difference as a SSD. The difference is mind blowing on the performance side of things.

Just keep your old machine around for gaming. I feel more productive when my work machine doesn't have anything but my work on it. Then when I'm away from it I'm less apt to think about work.

There's a reason people are still using emacs and vi/vim - they work. And they're really, really good at what they do. No, they're not easy to use proficiently; but then, most complex tools aren't. Invest some time - you won't regret it.

Agreed. Sure software blows these days, there's no question. But can I ask what exactly you DO want in an editor? It has to be smooth and fluid, sure. Has to have all the features of Emacs and if you're lucky, Vim, but they all need to be clickable because apparently typing things went out of style forty years ago? And also your 500 clickable options can't slow anything down and it has to load instantly? If you find one, let me know.

So, what do you want to go back to?? We've had even worse regimes for DRM, I remember the paper spin wheels I had to align as a kid to enter some code EVERYTIME I started the game... sounds like you have no solutions, try to clarify your counter examples rather than just ranting on how Eclipse doesn't get off your lawn.

PS: 3G ? I would die, 4G minimum .

If you have a problem. Then make your own, because you seem to be a programmer. I have no problems with any software I have in use and I don't use those I have problem with.

Vim/Emacs does not take 10 years to learn, you can learn the basic usage in a day easily. I was scared before about those editors, but once I launched them and checked bit about the documentation. Now i'm using vim key combinations everywhere.
